Walk Sunday 5th December 2021
Posted on: Thu 2nd December 2:09pm
Well, for your information, Richard Og de Burgh, the Red earl of Ulster, improved this ancient road, (along with others,) known as the Red Earls Way. Maybe to improve the roads to link his castle in Ballintober via Boyle with his castle in Ballymote. Who knows? But at 22.4km we won't be walking all that on Sunday. Phew! You can be assured many a battle took place in this area including the Battle of Curlew pass, when the English tried to put down the rebel Irish forces of Red Hugh O'Donnell. Needless to say the Brits lost.
But Tom is going to march us along some of the Red Earls Way on Sunday. This will be a flat walk with only a slight incline. Suitable for everyone. We'll call it a C+ walk, but Tom has all the details if you need to enquire. 087 237 9632.
